A khatiyan tells you who holds a plot and how big it is. It does not show you where the plot lies or what shape it has. That is the job of the cadastral map, the naksha. In Odisha the map portal is BhuNaksha Odisha, run under the Revenue and Disaster Management Department on NIC's Bhu-Naksha software.
This independent guide explains the selection screens, the buttons you will see, how to get a plot report, and why the map on screen is a helpful picture rather than a measured survey. Place names on the portal are in Odia, so it helps to know your district, tahasil and village names in Odia script before you start.
Two official ways in
There are two official addresses that open BhuNaksha Odisha:
| Address | What you see first |
|---|---|
| bhunakshaodisha.nic.in/bhunaksha/ | The map viewer with a selector panel (State, District, Tehsil, RI, Village, Sheet No) |
| app2bhunakshaodisha.nic.in | A "Select District" dropdown with 30 districts and "Proceed" / "Reset" buttons |
If one address is slow or will not load, try the other. NIC's national Bhunaksha status page also lists Odisha. The national site bhunaksha.nic.in says it is meant for authorised officials of States/UTs; citizens use their state's own Bhunaksha address.
How to view your plot on Bhunaksha Odisha
The portal labels are confirmed. The order below follows those labels; the screens may look slightly different on your device.
- Open BhuNaksha Odisha. State is already Odisha.
- Choose the District, then the Tehsil (tahasil).
- Choose the RI. This is the Revenue Inspector circle (ରାଜସ୍ୱ ନିରୀକ୍ଷକ) that your village falls under. If you do not know it, try each RI in the list until your village appears.
- Choose the Village.
- Choose the Sheet No. Villages often have several map sheets, for example 01 to 05. Your plot is on only one of them.
- When the map loads, click your plot, or search by plot number if the search box is offered.
- Open the "Plot Info" pane to read the details linked to that plot.
- For a printable record, open the plot report, check District, Tehsil, RI, Village, Sheet No and Plot No, pick "Single Plot" or "All Plots of same owner", then press "Show Report" or "Show Report PDF".

Buttons and panes you will see
| Label on portal | What it is usually for (the portal does not explain these) |
|---|---|
| Show FMB Layers | Probably shows extra map layers on the sheet |
| Plot Info | Details for the plot you clicked |
| Layers / Custom Layers | Turn map layers on or off |
| Themes | Likely changes how plots are shaded |
| Google Map / Bing Maps | Base map options behind the plot lines |
| Login | Usually for officials; viewing maps did not need it when we checked |
| About BhuNaksha | Information about the software |
The plot report options "Single Plot" and "All Plots of same owner" are handy if a family holds several plots in one village: the second option gathers them in one report.
Reading the map sensibly
- It is a picture of the record. The map shows plot lines from the cadastral survey. Field boundaries on the ground may have shifted over the years.
- No scale is given. No official scale value was found on the Bhunaksha Odisha pages, so do not measure distances off your phone screen.
- Satellite overlay is approximate. Laying plot lines over Google or Bing imagery helps you recognise roads and ponds, but the fit may be off by some distance.
- No legal statement. The plot report page shows no statement about legal validity. Treat it as information.
For an exact boundary on the ground, the route is a demarcation by revenue staff. The Odisha Revenue Services portal lists "Apply for Demarcation (For Private Individual)" with a fee of Rs 800 per plot.
Getting an official map sheet
If you need an official copy of the village map sheet, the Odisha Revenue Services portal has a service called "Apply for Cadastral Map(s) of Village(s)". The fee table lists Map requisition at Rs 300 per map sheet.
- Open odisharevenueservices.nic.in.
- Choose "Apply for Cadastral Map(s) of Village(s)" and fill in the village details.
- Pay the fee the portal shows and keep the application number.
- Track it with "Application Status" (Application Type: Map Requisition).
The same portal is used for mutation; see online mutation in Odisha.
Bhunaksha vs Bhulekh Map View
Bhulekh Odisha also has a "Map View" link for village maps. Its content did not load for our research, so we cannot describe its screens. Bhunaksha Odisha is the fuller map tool with plot selection and reports. Our Bhulekh Odisha map page compares the two, and the RoR guide covers the text record that goes with the map. Map correction work has its own history: the R&DM Department issued notices in 2018 on implementing web-based Bhunaksha for cadastral map correction.
If something on the map looks wrong, such as a missing subdivision after a sale, raise it at your tahasil office. The tahasil portal guide shows how to find your Tahasildar's contact.
Frequently asked questions
How do I see my land map on Bhunaksha Odisha?
Open bhunakshaodisha.nic.in/bhunaksha/, choose District, Tehsil, RI, Village and Sheet No, then click your plot or search its number. The Plot Info pane shows the linked details, and the plot report gives a PDF. Viewing maps did not need a login when we checked; the Login button is usually for officials.
What is RI in Bhunaksha Odisha?
RI stands for Revenue Inspector. In the selector it is the RI circle within the tehsil that your village falls under. If you are unsure which RI to pick, go through the RI options under your tehsil until your village name appears in the village list.
Bhunaksha Odisha mein sheet number kya hota hai?
Ek gaon ka naksha kai sheets mein bata hota hai, jaise 01 se 05. Aapka plot sirf ek sheet par hoga. Agar pehli sheet par plot na mile to baaki sheets kholkar dekhiye, ya tahasil se apni sheet number puchhiye.
Is the Bhunaksha plot report legally valid?
The plot report page shows no statement on legal validity, so treat it as information. For an official map copy, apply for Cadastral Map(s) of Village(s) on the Odisha Revenue Services portal, where the fee is Rs 300 per map sheet. For ground boundaries, apply for demarcation.
Why is Bhunaksha Odisha not opening?
Government map servers can be slow or busy. Try the second address app2bhunakshaodisha.nic.in, switch networks, or try at a quieter time of day. If the map tiles load but your village does not appear, recheck the tehsil and RI selection.
Can I measure my plot from the Bhunaksha map?
Not reliably. No official map scale was found on the portal, and satellite overlays are approximate. Use the area figure on the RoR for size, and apply for demarcation if you need the boundary fixed on the ground. Individual demarcation is listed at Rs 800 per plot.
